# After the Adobe Clones: Can REA Really Reverse Engineer Anything?

A 5-minute video explaining what REA (Reverse Engineer Anything, rea-agents 6.4.0) is, how to set it up as an MCP server with Claude Code via Node.js, JDK and Ghidra, and what reverse engineering can and cannot do. The demo runs a blind test on Command & Conquer: Red Alert, checking REA's 8 claims against EA's GPL v3 source code; 7 of 8 were exactly right, with the single miss illustrating where human judgement is still needed.

## Description

Video walkthrough of REA's capabilities and limits, including setup requirements (Node.js, JDK, Ghidra) and a hands-on blind test on Command & Conquer: Red Alert compared against the GPL v3 CnC_Remastered_Collection source. Chapters cover the Adobe clone context, how REA works with Claude Code, decoded unit commands, and the one incorrect claim. Tools referenced: rea-agents 6.4.0, Ghidra 12.1.4, Temurin JDK 21, Node.js 22.19+.

## Original README

After the Adobe Clones: Can REA Really Reverse Engineer Anything?

"Software is over"? Not quite. Reverse engineering gives you the logic, not the source code.

In this video: what REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is, how to set it up with Claude Code as an MCP server (Node.js, JDK, Ghidra), what reverse engineering can and can't do, and a real experiment on Command & Conquer: Red Alert, checked against EA's GPL source code. 7 of 8 claims were exactly right. The one miss shows exactly where AI still needs you.

What I used
- REA (rea-agents 6.4.0): https://github.com/morluto/rea
- Ghidra 12.1.4: https://github.com/NationalSecurityAgency/ghidra
- Eclipse Temurin JDK 21: https://adoptium.net/
- Node.js 22.19+: https://nodejs.org/
- Claude Code with the REA MCP server
- Reference source code (GPL v3): https://github.com/electronicarts/CnC_Remastered_Collection

Rebuild functionality, not decompiled code. Art, text and trademarks stay with their owners. Game screenshots: Command & Conquer Remastered Collection (Steam / EA), used for commentary. The Adobe clones mentioned are the ArtCraft open-source alphas by Brandon Thomas; this video does not claim they were built with REA.
