# How To Use REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) To Build Your Own Apps

A video walkthrough showing how to install REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) safely and use it to build three new apps — a screen recorder, a screenshot markup tool, and a dictation/meeting-notes app — starting from the free, open-source projects ShareX, Greenshot and OpenWhispr. It covers the legal/licence limits, scanning the repo before install and keeping work in one lab folder.

## Description

REA (Reverse Engineer Anything) is the #1 repo on GitHub Trending right now. I installed it the safe way, then used it to build 3 of my own apps from 3 free, open-source tools: a screen recorder with a built-in editor, a screenshot markup tool, and a dictation + meeting-notes app.

Official REA repo: https://github.com/morluto/rea (MIT). Source apps: ShareX (GPL-3.0), Greenshot (GPL-3.0), OpenWhispr (MIT). Chapters cover what REA does, the legal line on terms of use, safe installation and scanning, and live builds of Leverage Studio, Leverage Snap and Leverage Listen. Honest notes: REA reconstructs behaviour with evidence rather than giving original source; only github.com/morluto/rea is official; check licences and terms before rebuilding; cloud AI is used for transcription.

⏱️ CHAPTERS
0:00 I built my own screen recorder with REA
0:23 Why everyone is talking about REA
0:51 What REA actually does (the locksmith idea)
2:20 Is software dead? No. Here's why
3:34 The legal line: terms of use and lawsuits
4:06 The 3 free apps we're building
4:24 Install REA safely: scan it first
5:02 Keep it in one lab folder
6:28 The one prompt that installs it
7:48 Bypass permissions (only after the scan)
8:15 App 1: my own screen recorder (from ShareX)
10:25 Leverage Studio: recorder + editor, built
11:52 App 2: the Lovable shortcut (from Greenshot)
14:31 Leverage Snap: the screenshot tool it built
15:39 App 3: dictation + meeting notes (from OpenWhispr)
17:29 Leverage Listen: live test
18:21 What you can build next

⚠️ HONEST NOTES
• REA reads how an app works without running it. You get its best reconstruction plus the evidence, not the app's original source code.
• Only github.com/morluto/rea is official. Copycat repos with "free download" pages keep popping up. Don't use them.
• Install it into ONE project folder and have Claude scan it first. Don't run a setup that changes settings for your whole computer.
• Check the license and the terms of use before you rebuild anything. I only studied free, open-source apps, and I built my own versions with new names. Rebuilding paid, closed software can break its terms.
• These are first versions. Launching an app for real still means marketing, support and security work.
• Leverage Listen uses cloud AI to transcribe and write the notes, so the audio and text leave your computer.
