REA (Reverse Engineer Anything)
From 30k stars to 120k+ in three days, adding over 25k in a single day. MIT open source.
Everyone is talking about it, "everything software can be reversed,"
What I find more interesting is: tearing down hardware communication protocols.
The air conditioner, water heater, and lights at home all come with a hard-to-use vendor app. Behind the app is essentially a device communication protocol.
REA's recent updates have just completed this chain:
· Connect to an emulator or real device via adb, capture the official app
· Analyze HAR or mitmproxy captures, locate each request to the app source code
· Use Binwalk/Unblob to unpack firmware, then hand it to Ghidra for analysis
Then hand the evidence to Claude Code / Codex, reverse the protocol, and write your own control client.
Someone on X has already used the same approach to reverse an air conditioner, made it into a Mac status bar app, and then spent 15 minutes porting it to AR glasses, so you can control it with a glance.
Previously, vendor apps decided how you could use your own devices; in the future, you can write your own.

REA(Reverse Engineer Anything)
App
