Reverse Engineer Anything (REA): AI

Reverse Engineer Anything (REA): Can AI Really Clone Any App?
A GitHub repo called Reverse Engineer Anything (REA) went from almost unknown to 200K+ stars in about two weeks, and half the internet decided software is dead. I read the docs, the case studies and the fine print. Here's what it really does.
I've spent 27 years building and integrating enterprise systems (middleware, airports, telecom, e-commerce), so I've heard "this will kill software" more than once. REA is genuinely interesting. It's just not what the viral posts say it is.
What I cover: • What REA actually is: an open-source MCP server and CLI that lets AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and others) drive real reverse engineering tools like Ghidra, Hopper and IDA • What it can open: native binaries, Electron apps, websites, HAR network captures, .NET assemblies, Android APKs, firmware • The evidence model, the one design choice that makes it more than a thin wrapper • Where it really works: the DX-Ball, Notion and PC-98 case studies • 3 myths going around, including "you can now clone any app" • How to try it safely, step by step • The legal line you shouldn't cross • What this means for your career as a developer
Chapters 0:00 Software is dead? 1:07 What actually happened 2:22 What REA really is 4:24 Everything it can open 6:05 The secret weapon: evidence 7:27 Where it genuinely shines 8:54 Reality check: 3 myths 11:37 How to try it safely 13:14 The legal line 14:35 What this means for your career 16:24 My verdict
Want to try it? Start with software you own: npx rea-agents setup You'll need Node.js 22.19 or newer. Electron apps, websites and HAR files work out of the box. Native binaries need Ghidra, Hopper or IDA installed separately. Anything you don't trust goes in a VM.

Please read this part Only reverse engineer software you own or are authorised to analyse. Getting source-like output doesn't make the code yours, and most commercial licences restrict reverse engineering. This video is for learning, not legal advice. If you plan to ship anything based on another product, talk to a lawyer first. Also, REA has not launched any crypto token. Any coin using the REA name has nothing to do with the project.
Not sponsored. I'm not connected to the REA project in any way.
Quick question for you: would you use REA on your own legacy systems, or does a tool like this worry you? Tell me in the comments. I read them. #ReverseEngineering #AIAgents #ClaudeCode
