Hello Guys! This is my first contribution here on this subReddit and I'm really happy to be sharing this with you. If you run Linux on your Helios, you’ve probably noticed the speakers sound flat and thin compared to Windows. That’s because the DTS:X Ultra tuning Acer made for each laptop’s speakers never runs on Linux. I vibe-coded AcerUltraX with Claude Code, using the REA repo to reverse engineer how Windows loads Acer’s DTS engine. The result runs Acer’s original DTS engine natively on Linux. No Wine, no VM. On my PH16-71 the output matches Windows bit for bit. 😁 And the great news? No more trying to fix the issue where DTS:Virtual X is running instead of DTS:Ultra X lol What it does: All of Acer’s sound modes: Music, Movie, Game 1 to 3, Voice, Custom, Off Separate modes per output (speakers, 3.5mm jack, each Bluetooth device), switching automatically 500+ headphone profiles, like the Windows DTS app Spatial sound for 5.1/7.1 content 10-band EQ and custom profiles, with a live response curve A loudness-matched Compare button, so you can hear what actually changes instead of just “louder sounds better” Light: Buily on Rust. It uses about 20 MB RAM, under 1% of a CPU core at idle On the Helios 16 it lifts the low mids by about 10 dB, brings voices and detail forward, and filters out the deep bass the speakers can’t play, so they don’t rattle at high volume. It really sounded awesome with testing! How it works: it contains no Acer or DTS files. On first launch it downloads Acer’s own driver package for your laptop from Acer’s servers, verifies checksums, keeps the ~20 MB it needs, and routes your audio through it with PipeWire. Requirements: 64-bit Intel/AMD Acer laptop, PipeWire + WirePlumber (default on current Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, openSUSE, Arch). There’s an apt repo for Debian 13 / Ubuntu 24.04+, a tarball for any distro, and a PKGBUILD for Arch-based systems. Where I need help: I only own a PH16-71. Acer’s package has tunings for about 160 laptops, including other Helios, Helios Neo, and Triton models, and they should work the same way, but nobody has tested them yet. If you try it, please open an issue with the output of acerultrax-cli detect . On how it was made: to be upfront, this is vibe-coded. Claude Code wrote the code, and the reverse engineering was built on the REA repo. My part was directing it, testing on my own laptop, and listening to every change. Before release it went through a security review and a performance review, and everything they found was fixed. The test suite includes a bit-for-bit comparison against the Windows engine, so the output isn’t guesswork. If you’re cautious about AI-written code, which is fair, everything is open source and I’d welcome anyone reading through it. It’s free and MIT licensed: https://github.com/fawaz7/AcerUltraX Happy to answer questions about how it works.
